Who Is Your Audience?

Main Questions Yes No Considerations Your Answer
Does the assignment give hints concerning the reader?

Is it a business letter?

Is it a literature review?

A personal opinion?

Is it easy to identify the reader? Who will read your writing?
Is there more than one reader? Is it possible more than two readers would be interested in reading your writing?
Why does the reader want to read your writing? Why would someone choose to read your writing? Are you creating an argument, for example?
What does the writer want the reader to know about them? What do you tell the reader about yourself in your writing? Do you want the reader to know this about you?
If you were the reader of your writing, what would you think? Do you think your writing is clear? Concise? Effective? What can you do to make it better?
