Getting Ready to Submit Your Application

Once you have an approved dissertation proposal, have prepared your supplemental materials, and have followed all previous guidance, you will be ready to submit your IRB application. Here are resources to support your success:

  • IRBManager Instructions. You will use IRBManager to create and submit your IRB application. We have instructions to help you use this system.
  • IRB Determinations. Here is an explanation of the possible IRB determinations for your study.

What happens after I submit my IRB application?

Here is what happens after you submit your application:

Once you submit your application, it will first go to your chair. Your chair will briefly check and answer these questions: Right student? and Right study? If the answer to either of these questions is "no," they will return the application to you. If the answer to both questions is "yes," they will submit your application to the IRB.

If your study is not approved, your application will be returned to you with feedback, and you will resubmit to the IRB until you receive approval. Your chair will be notified of the status of your application, but they will no longer be reviewing your application.

When the IRB approves your study, an approval letter will be generated and sent to you and your chair.
