Cognitivism: Ways of KnowingPaciotti, K. (2013). Cognitivism: Ways of knowing. In B. Irby, G. Brown, R. Lara-Alecio, & S. Jackson (Eds.), Handbook of educational theory (pp. 105-113). Information Age Publishing.
This reading (Chapter 9) traces the development of cognitivism from Piaget, who was focused on the nature of human development and intelligence, to Vygotsky and Bandura, who focused more on cognitivism's social aspects and led the way to constructivist thinking. (You will learn about constructivism next week.) Note the author’s discussion of how environment, culture, and gender may influence cognition.
