In this chapter subsection, programmed instruction is discussed from a historical perspective based on Thorndike and Skinner’s theories of behaviorism and other technological-mediated instruction. They review studies that have been done using programmed instruction in an online environment and conclude there is some benefit in relation to academic achievement.
