This chapter will help you understand Freud’s and Erikson’s theories, how they are different and how they are similar, and how they can be used to understand and explain personality development. The material from this chapter will be used while completing this week’s assignment. Please note, this is a lengthy reading so plan your time accordingly!

Cross-Cultural Investigation of the Validity of Erikson’s theory of Personality Development
Ochse, R. & Plug, C. (1986). Cross-cultural investigation of the validity of Erikson’s theory of personality development. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 50(6), 1240 – 1252.
This researchers described a study that was conducted to determine if Erikson’s theory could be applied in different cultures. While this research was published in 1986 it is still a good example of cross-cultural research to test the validity of a theory. However, it is important to keep in mind when the research was conducted and consider this when generalizing the findings to the present day.
