What is Community Property?

Community Property: Property owned jointly by a husband and wife, each having an individual one-half interest; it includes property acquired by either spouse during the marriage (except by gift, devise, legacy, or descent). In states with community property systems, income earned by either spouse is owned jointly and equally by each. In common law systems, income is owned by the person who earns it.
