HSA professionals are charged with hiring, developing, and evaluating their employees, and each of these roles requires specific knowledge elements and skills. In this chapter, you will learn about strategies to motivate and retain your employee. You will consider strategies for learning about the goals of each employee and helping them to develop their career plans. You will learn about mentoring and the concept of apprenticeship. The reading will also cover the management of challenging situations, such as bullying and harassment. Additionally, you will learn how to introduce conversations about these topics with your employees, the importance of education and training as a preventive measure, and how to appropriately handle employee conflicts when they occur. As you review the material, consider the strategies you would utilize to evaluate your employees, work with them to set goals for their advancement, and strategies you can employ to establish a safe, respectful workplace for all.
