Dissertation Defense

Upon completing the dissertation and with the committee’s approval, the doctoral candidate will present the dissertation defense. The dissertation defense is a formal presentation to explain the research process and findings. The committee will then ask questions related to the candidate’s work, the implications of their findings, and their future. Defending the dissertation is one of the great rites of passage into academia. Upon completion of a successful defense, a doctoral candidate becomes a doctor.
